The Howard County Cherry Tree Project

Legacy tree looking across the lake at downtown Columbia.

As an extension of the cherry trees blossoming in Washington, D.C., the goal of the Blossoms of Hope campaign is to have cherry trees simultaneously blossoming across Howard County each April to beautify the county and beckon people to visit and experience the many attractions found here. The beauty of the Blossoms of Hope program goes far beyond the trees’ annual display of color; it is also about hope for the individuals and families within the community who are coping with cancer.

A portion of each official tree that is planted as part of this project is donated to Howard County General Hospital’s Claudia Mayer/Tina Broccolino Cancer Resource Center.
